Approximately one third of all women will have bladder control problems at some stage in their lives. This increases for women over 40 years, when leakage problems become very common. Statistics show that many women will never seek help even though there are very good programmes available.
INP Medical Clinic has an effective programme to teach women how to help themselves with bladder and incontinence issues. It combines up-to-date dietary, behavioural and biofeedback methods to get the bests results. It’s a combination of decreasing any bladder irritants, training bladder control, strengthening and co-ordinating the pelvic floor muscles.
So what is Biofeedback?
It’s a method of providing people with information about their body. For incontinence, the nurse will use a very sensitive biofeedback device to teach women how to squeeze their pelvic floor muscles correctly. When women can do this correctly in the clinic, they use a home training device for a few weeks, to strengthen their pelvic floor muscles.
Because incontinence can be a sign that there are other problems with the woman’s body which need investigation, and because some types of incontinence don’t respond to Biofeedback, we make sure that women see one of our doctors for a pre-screening.
After the screening, the women see a nurse. She understands incontinence and Biofeedback and is ready to coach women in getting control of their bladder. There are usually about 5 appointments altogether and it can take a month or so to see results. If this is a problem for you - call us today and make a start on getting your incontinence under control.
